William Allen, PsyD, is a clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow at CBT Denver. Dr. Allen’s approach in clinical work begins with an understanding of the client's problems, strengths, identities, culture, and history. He believes his role as a therapist is to embody the qualities of cultural humility, non-judgment, and trust. Dr. Allen collaborates with clients to establish specific goals, which they work toward using short-term, skills-based interventions. Dr. Allen understands clients' problems through a cognitive-behavioral model, focusing on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact. He utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) approaches to develop skills towards clients’ goals.

Dr. Allen has worked extensively with individuals experiencing depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), substance use disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). During his four years of supervised clinical practice, Dr. Allen has had experience assessing and treating a wide range of presenting concerns in mixed inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment settings, college counseling centers, and a primary care office. Dr. Allen wrote his dissertation on the prevalence and characteristics of cannabis used as treatment, commonly known as medical marijuana, in a substance use treatment setting.

Dr. Allen received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then earned his Master of Clinical Psychology (PsyM) and Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from Wright State University. Dr. Allen completed his pre-doctoral internship at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Counseling and Psychological Services.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. Allen enjoys activities in nature, critiquing movies, reading, and playing chess.

While completing his year of supervised clinical practice to get his independent psychologist license in Colorado, Dr. Allen is supervised by Dr. Antonia Pieracci and Dr. Keri Johns.
